Do you see?
At the moment I am researching propaganda and subliminal messaging in the advertising industry for a project I'm doing on ethics at uni. I find it facinating the lengths that the industry will go to, to get you to buy their product, from product placement, embedded images, propaganda and shock tactics not to mention the millions they spend every year researching their target group. [...]
The area I find most interesting has got to be the use of embeds. From phallic symbols placed in the creases of clothing to images of nightmares placed on a broken bottle of whiskey, sex sells and so does fear.
The industry knows how to get an alcoholic to stay an alcoholic, if you look at many of the advertisements for spirits more often than not there will be an embed that is likely to resemble the nightmares alcoholics face when trying to get sober. Fear makes them drink and fear keeps them drinking.
The ruthlessnes of the industry doesn't stop there, I found an article on The Observer website which informs us of the new form of tobacco advertising, yes folks that's right the tobacco advertising industry is far from dead. Research is now being carried out into subliminal messaging in the form of interior design, hard to believe? Just give the article a read.
